New IPCC Report: Greater Certainty, Impacts Are Speeding Up

Leaks of the new IPCC report indicate that an international panel of scientists say there is near certainty that global warming is human driven, and its impacts are speeding up, reports Joe Romm at Climate Progress. They warn that sea levels could conceivably rise by more than three feet by the end of the century if emissions continue at a runaway pace, notes Justin Gillis at the New York Times. The scientists, he adds, largely dismiss a recent slowdown in the pace of warming, which is often cited by climate change doubters, attributing it most likely to short-term factors. The report emphasizes that the basic facts about future climate change are more established than ever, justifying the rise in global concern. It also reiterates that the consequences of escalating emissions are likely to be profound. Unless emissions are reduced dramatically, the likely heating with current runaway emissions will massively disrupt plants, animals, agriculture – and thus, us. Carbon emissions are a crime against our descendents.

Join the swelling numbers of voters TELLING Congress they’ll vote for Clean Energy candidates here: http://signon.org/sign/we-are-the-clean-99?source=c.em.cp&r_by=487176 . This is an ongoing campaign (the next Congressional election is in less than 2 years!) so please, spread the word. It’s our way of telling Congress that a strong clean energy voting bloc is out there. This is how YOU can make a difference.
