Loss of Earth’s Thermal Shield To Speed Warming Faster Than Thought

It’s Melting, Melting… Loss of Earth’s Thermal Shield To Speed Warming Faster Than Thought says a new study, reports Ari Philipps at Climate Progress. The Arctic ice cover is shrinking dramatically  in area, volume and ice density – translation: Earth’s Arctic thermal shield is a shell of its former self, can be broken up by storms, and is getting worse. As white ice is replaced by dark water, much more sunlight gets absorbed, heating the water. The new study finds that the darkness of the water, and hence its ability to absorb sunlight, is much greater than previously thought. Thus, it will speed up global warming far more than previously estimated.

OO Total loss of summer Arctic ice is estimated to DOUBLE global warming.

Join the swelling numbers of voters TELLING Congress they’ll vote for Clean Energy candidates here: http://signon.org/sign/we-are-the-clean-99?source=c.em.cp&r_by=487176 . This is an ongoing campaign (the next Congressional election is this year!) so please, spread the word. It’s our way of telling Congress that a strong clean energy voting bloc is out there. This is how YOU can make a difference.
